Scientific objectives
The goal of the POP team is to better understand (i) how the linguistic and physiological components (aerodynamic, articulatory and motor) interact in the production of speech and (ii) how this knowledge can contribute to the assessment of speech and voice disorders as well as their clinical treatment.
The work is organized around specific themes at the center of the national and international scientific landscape which constitute the centers of interest of several members of the team.

Among these areas of interest are, for example:
- The influence of the biomechanics of the tongue in the articulation of prosody;
- Coordination of the laryngeal / supralaryngeal systems in achieving tonal alignment;
- The mechanical and phonetic aspects of vocal effort;
- The physiology and modeling of the vibration of the vocal cords;
- The temporal structuring of pathological speech (e.g., laryngectomy, dyslexia);
- Clinical evaluation on pathological corpora.
One strength of the POP team lies in the complementarity of its members because it brings together specialists in different areas of speech: linguists who are experts in voice and prosody; clinician-researchers experts in physiology, and oral and maxillofacial morphologies; and signal and data processing experts. The data will be collected from typical and atypical populations (access to pathological populations being favored by the presence of clinicians in the team); their confrontation will allow us to better answer complementary questions both theoretically and clinically. The hypotheses will be tested through acoustic, articulatory (EMA, dynamic palatography) and respiratory (EVA, BIOPAC, larynx bench) experiments.
