Michael Karani is a linguist at the University of Dar Es Salaam. He is the Tanzanian leader of the SYSORI project (in English) which focuses on the study of the sound systems of the languages of the Rift Valley in which the LPL is involved through Alain Ghio.

Michael Karani's visit is part of the Great African Rift Interdisciplinary Research Group 2022 Scientific meeting (in English) which will take place in Lyon from November 22 to 24 and to which he has been invited. He will then come to Aix to meet colleagues at the LPL on Friday 25 November before returning to Tanzania.

… And departure on mission of Alain Ghio & Yohann Meynadier in Mbugu country (Tanzania)

Just after then, Alain Ghio and Yohann Meynadier will go on a mission to Tanzania from November 28 to December 15. This mission is part of the SYSORI project and has two components. First, a mission to record Wambugu speakers in the Usambara Mountains. Then the second part of the mission will consist of training work at the University of Dar Es Salaam where lessons and practical work in phonetics will be offered to students of linguistics. This mission will be carried out together with Didier Démolin (Professor of phonetics emeritus at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and partner of the Sysori project) as well as with Maarten Mous (Professor of African linguistics at the University of Leiden, Netherlands).
